Tasty gluten-free? Isn’t that an oxymoron?
“Not at all,” says Warburtons’ Free From Director, Chris Hook. “One of the aspirations of Warburtons is to make gluten-free bread products that taste as good as their equivalent mainstream bread products. We believe we have achieved that goal, which is why retailers in the UK are opting to take Warburtons’ gluten-free bread in preference to other fresh bakery brands.
Flushed with the success of their gluten-free bread range in the UK, Warburtons is now looking to export to continental Europe. Initially Warburtons will be looking at retailers in Spain, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and France – but will consider any country where there's a high incidence of celiac disease or an existing strong market for gluten-free.
The company already sells its gluten-free range in locations as far afield as Dubai. At the Free From Expo in Amsterdam, the aim is to speak to potential European retail customers and assess them for possible collaboration.
And offer your gluten-free bread and rolls for taste tests?
“Definitely! Actually, Warburtons is no stranger to the Free From Food Expo. We were one of the founding companies and attended some of the early exhibitions in Freiburg and Barcelona,” adds Chris. “We are looking forward to attending the Amsterdam event, and tapping into what we believe is a strong demand amongst customers in Europe for high-quality, great-tasting gluten-free products.”
